Palm Angels project started as a book, released by Rizzoli, featuring large-format photos of skaters in Manhattan Beach and Venice Beach, lensed by Francesco Ragazzi, Moncler’s art director. The name is based on the first picture taken for the special tome, a picture of a blond skater under California palm trees: “I thought there’s the palms, he’s an angel, so Palm Angels”. The launch of the book with foreword by Pharrell Williams, was accompanied by a limited edition of sunglasses and t-shirts with the same aesthetic. And the rest, as they say, is history. The launch of the namesake label, designed by Francesco Ragazzi, took place in 2015. Graphic t-shirts and sweatshirts, trimmed pants, embroidered jackets, hand-painted denim, sneakers and accessories, Palm Angels is his very personal representation of American culture. The unisex line with post-preppy vibe - an instant global success - is mostly inspired by the DNA of Los Angeles, “ingrained in this sport, the timeless style, the attitude, the typical Californian look with long blonde hair”. Another big influence of the creative director, who grew between Italy and the US, is Bob Marley.
